The rumours you hear about being your own boss are true… It’s pretty damn great. And I can’t imagine going back to a typical 9-5, if I'm being entirely honest.
That said, there are certainly less glamourous sides to business owning. But for this post, here are my biggest plus sides that make the overtime, stress and getting comfortable in the discomfort entirely worth it.
Let’s be a little honest here… Sometimes winter can feeling so depressing. Yes, when we think of winter we might imagine Christmas and lights and romantic white fluffs of snow falling from the sky and getting caught in our eyelashes… But at the same time, there are just those days when winter is just… Cold. And lonely. And as an entrepreneur, these feelings of loneliness can be even more heightened by the winter season.
Ever since my business reached a year, I’ve felt a huge shift in my relationship with it. Most notably, it’s become more real… in the sense that, this thing has actually succeeded. I’m making a full-time income, I recently took on a mortgage, and the pressure and responsibility is really setting in.
Another way to put this is that I started to become overcome by fear.
This brilliant image was taken by Ros Rheaume of Harbour City Imagery. We were in the middle of a great chat about storytelling online to prospective clients and customers when she picked up her camera and took a few shots. She explained to me that when someone is talking about something they're truly passionate about, it can be caught in an image and sincerely shine through. Sounds about right.
